VidZone (released 11th June’09) lets you stream thousands of music videos onto your PS3 in excellent quality and its a really user friendly application. You can Download VidZone free (23MB) from the PS Store
It does take some time to get going, once you have agreed to the T&C’s, you have to wait a short while when the database first loads up.
Its got a pretty neat interface which is easy to navigate around, the only downside been the search facility, you have to search by letter of the artist, track and its pretty tedious and slow.
You have the option to create as many playlists as you like, it’s a bit like having your own personal music channel right there on your PS3. There are some pre loaded Albums already on the main menu to get you going straight away.
I have slow internet connection (1.4Mbps) and it still streamed the videos with no lag issues at all. The quality is pretty good too, I’ve got a 42” LCD HD TV with surround sound and the picture looked good and more importantly the sound was good too, some videos were a little bit out of sync but maybe that’s my poor connection?
For VidZone to offer the service for free there obviously advertisements on there, however they appear as a small banner in a non invasive way and don’t interrupt any of the videos, the adverts are usually for PS3 content as well.
It isn’t region free and I think at present it only works in United Kingdom, France, Ireland, Spain, Italy, Germany, and Australia VidZone is updated regularly with new tracks and only takes a few minutes to update itself.
You can also connect your PSP through remote connection and watch the videos on there. I’ve not tried this but am told its pretty neat.
Really you’ve got nothing to lose with this application.
